Understanding PA materials


Polyamide (PA), also known as nylon, is a linear thermoplastic polymer that contains an acylamino (-CO-NH-) repeating structural unit on its backbone. Common polyamides are nylon 6, nylon 8, nylon 11, nylon 12, nylon 66, nylon 610, and nylon 1010. Polyamide has many excellent properties, such as high crystallinity, obvious melting point, high surface hardness, abrasion resistance, small coefficient of friction, self-lubrication, shock absorption and sound attenuation. In addition, polyamide also has low temperature resistance, certain heat resistance and good electrical insulation. However, it also has shortcomings such as high water absorption and no acid resistance.

Strength and stiffness PA has very high strength and stiffness, one of the excellent structural materials. PA66 has high tensile strength and modulus, and can withstand large forces and heavy loads.

Heat resistance PA has good heat resistance. For example, PA66 has a high melting point and can maintain good physical and mechanical properties at high temperatures, making it suitable for applications in high temperature environments.

Chemical resistance PA has a low coefficient of friction and good wear performance, making it suitable for applications that require wear resistance and lubrication properties, such as bearings, gears, etc.


PA is a kind of engineering plastic with excellent properties, widely used in electronic and electrical, automotive, construction, office equipment, machinery, aerospace and other fields. Here are some key facts about PA materials:


Processing performance: PA material has good fluidity and processing window, melting molding processing temperature is generally around 320 ° C, decomposition temperature around 350 ° C.

Crystallinity: The crystallinity of PA depends on the singleness of the repeating units in the molecule and the flexibility of the molecular chain. For example, PA46 has rapid crystallization and high crystallinity, providing excellent heat resistance.

Solder resistance: In dry state, PA materials such as PA46, PA6T, PA9T, etc., show excellent solder resistance. In the hygroscopic state, the solder resistance temperature of PA9T can reach 280℃, much higher than that of PPS 250℃.

Application: PA materials are used in connectors, connectors, frames and so on in the electronic and electrical industry. In the automotive industry, due to its high temperature resistance, PA materials are used as metal replacement materials for engine components, transmission systems, air systems, etc.

LED industry application: semi-aromatic polyamide in the LED industry is mainly used for LED brackets, including black materials for LED display and white materials for low and medium power LED lighting.

Other applications: PA materials can also be used in hot water boiler connectors, water heater standard assemblies, oven control systems, etc.

Mechanical properties: PA material has excellent mechanical properties, including tensile strength, bending strength, impact strength and so on. The properties of modified and reinforced PA material or PA alloy material are further improved.

Electrical properties: PA has good electrical insulation under dry conditions and is an excellent high frequency insulation material, but the insulation is reduced after moisture absorption.

Solvent resistance: PA material has good chemical stability, alkali resistance, weak acid resistance, and belongs to solvent-resistant plastics.

Flame retardant: PA material flame retardant is better, not easy to burn, adding antibacterial agents can also have antibacterial, self-purification function.

Variety: There are many varieties of PA materials, including PA6, PA66, PA610, etc., as well as newly developed semi-aromatic nylon PA6T and special nylon.

Reinforced PA: The addition of reinforced materials such as glass fiber can significantly improve the mechanical properties, dimensional stability, heat resistance and aging resistance of PA.

Flame retardant PA: PA added with flame retardants has better flame retardant performance, but attention should be paid to the corrosion of metals.

Transparent PA: It has good light transmission and optical properties, and the temperature should be strictly controlled during processing to avoid degradation and affect transparency.

Weather resistance PA: Adding additives such as carbon black to improve weather resistance, but it may affect the blanking and wear of parts during processing.

PA6T and PA9T: as semi-aromatic nylon, with excellent heat resistance and melting processing properties, suitable for electronic and electrical, automotive parts and other fields.

Modified PA6, PA66 engineering plastics around


Unmodified PA6, PA66 flame retardant performance is poor, belongs to flammable materials, but the flame retardant can change the burning characteristics of the polymer, through the mechanical mixing method, the addition of flame retardant in the masterbatch to change the flammable characteristics, can be used in switches, low-voltage electrical housing, wiring terminals, circuit breakers and so on.

Toughening PA6, PA66 mixed with the right amount of toughening agent, the product has the characteristics of low temperature resistance, high flexibility, high fluidity, low shrinkage, low water absorption, high impact resistance, aging resistance, etc., can be used for stroller parts, rolling belt, wire card, connector, etc.

Enhance the PA6, PA66 glass fiber content of 5%-50%, according to different product characteristics control glass fiber content, with high strength, superior heat resistance, good impact resistance characteristics, can replace some metal materials lightweight, widely used in power tool shell, garden tools, gears, sports equipment, auto parts and so on.
